It’s not that we often hear anything new about autos from India, but this time the students of IIT-Mumbai have built what is deemed as the first ever electric racing car from India. Dubbed the EVo1, the electric race car comes out after more than sixty students from various department of university worked on it for more than one year. The work was commenced on the car with a budget of 15 lakhs at hand and after rigorous efforts of one year from a team of students, this car finally took shape.
The electric racing car from IIT Mumbai uses flat axial gap PMDC high efficiency DC motors by Agni that get juice from superior lithium polymer batteries. Motors generates a maximum of 32kw, the car has programmable Kelly Controller KDH14451A and races from 0-100kmph in five seconds, with its top speed at 115kmph. The total weight of the vehicle is 280kg and it has a range of 35km in on a single charge. Battery takes almost three hours to charge fully and has a an energy capacity of 9 kWh.
