Growing number of road accidents, due to human or technical failure, has raised the brows of security personals all over the world. According to the UN traffic report, “decade for action,” road accidents take over 1.3 million lives annually, while injuring about fifty million people, forcing them to live with disabilities throughout the life. And these numbers donโt stop here only, but are increasing with each passing year. To address the issue, automakers worldwide are striving to develop some high-end technologies that will not only add comfort but also help drivers evade accidents on the road. Have a look at some of the most innovative technologies developed to ensure a safe, comfy ride.
Heart rate monitoring seat by Ford
Developed in collaboration with experts from the RWTH Aachen University, the latest car seat from Ford makes use of electrode sensing technology to monitor a driverโs heartbeat, which is further connected to Ford vehicle safety systems and the medical services to access real-time health information to ensure complete safety while driving. Integrating a six-sensor system to the backrest, the innovative seat also features unobtrusive electrodes to identify the electronic signature of the heart and keep the rider (as well as medical services) updated about his/her health.
Driver assistance system by Audi
Setting new standards in auto assistance technologies, Audi has developed an assistance system, i.e. adaptive cruise control, which helps the driver keep a desired distance to the vehicle moving, up to a speed of 150 km/h (93.21 mph), in front by automatic accelerating and braking. In case of an accident, the car system activates the interior lighting and makes a call to emergency services through the Bluetooth car phone. Apart from adaptive cruise control, Audi car assistance system also includes a number of assistance systems, including the side assist, park assist and active lane, built-in with video cameras and radars to ease your ride.
- Autoglass windshield
Turning the windshield into a hi-tech display, Autoglass has conceived a smart windshield that not just displays all the necessary data right in front of the driving seat, but also lets the driver enjoy his/her favorite music tracks on the move. ย In addition, the head-up-display navigates the driver with an arrow pointing towards the desired destination and gives information about pedestrians moving around. In case, the driver is moving on the wrong side, the display warns him/her to get back to the right side of the road.
- Mercedes-Benz automated test driver
To ensure complete control and safety during test drives, Mercedes-Benz has developed an automation technology that allows automakers test and evaluate crash avoidance systems without risking the lives of test drivers. With the inclusion of the autopilot systems, now automakers can test their vehicles more frequently than ever before.
- GMโs mobile technology
Designed to create a wireless safety net of minute devices, General Motors has developed a mobile technology that will alert drivers about potential threats approaching them on the road. Capable of collecting information from other vehicles and communications, the portable system gives the information about hard-braking drivers, slippery roads, sharp curves and road signs to completely prevent car crashes on the road, thanks to the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication systems.
