Another concept car previewed ahead of 2012 Paris Motor Show debut wears Smart badge. The all-new electric city car is named Forstars and is described as Sports Utility Coupe (SUC). Smart will present the design of next production electric car, which is not only to redeem Smart Fortwo of age factor but will keep it ahead of stiff competition set by Swatch and Mercedes-Benz.
Two-seater with ample cargo space is targeted towards the possible future buyers of small crossovers, Smart Forstars is powered by Brabus Smart Electric sourced 60 kW magneto-electric motor that gets vital juice from 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. With a peak torque of 99 lb-ft, electric motor is capable of taking the EV well over 80mph.
Designed by Daimler’s Lake Como studio in Italy, Forstars measures 3550mm in length, 1710mm width and 1505mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2470mm, which is 603mm longer than Smart Fortwo. The EV rides on stylish three-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in 245/35 ZR 21 Michelin sport rubber tires.
The Forstar EV houses a movie projector that will project videos on the flat surface using an iPhone, smartphone dock replaces the conventional rearview mirror to show feeds from rearview camera and many other elements that might not make into the production model but when the Forstars will debut sometime within next year, it will sure to be the far ahead of Fortwo.
