GM teases 2014 Cadillac ELR Extended-Range EV ahead of Detroit show

2014 Cadillac ELR

The 2014 Cadillac ELR is in news for quite some time. We had reports about the Cadillac Converj concept vehicle based ELR to soon enter the production back in October. Confirming the reports, Cadillac has revealed the first image of its ELR for the model year 2014 with January 15th as an official date for the vehicle’s unveiling at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

The range extending electric car with a powertrain similar to Chevy Volt, the 2014 Cadillac ELR will bear coupe body style and is expected to get power from a 1.4-liter unit which will kick in once the battery runs out of juice. However, the engine will not power the car directly, instead will work (as in Chevy volt) as a generator to charge the batteries. Chrysler just teased the image but remained tight lipped about the tech specs.

The initial teaser image tells us that ELR will retain most of the concept’s striking design elements. As far as details are concerned, we have to keep the fingers cross till the time it finally bows at the 2013 Detroit Auto show. However, the key elements of 2014 Cadillac ELR are expected to be its raked profile, boomerang style lights and it will be identical to Chevrolet Volt in size but the its bigger wheels indicate its immense sporty spirit. Since it’s a Caddy, you could expect luxurious interior and scores of technological goodies. Though no word on the price either but new Cadillac is to placed somewhere in mid 50k range.
