With auto companies trying their hand in different segments worldwide, there is little scope left for expansion in developed nations, as automakers have to face a stiff competition from their counterparts. However, the underdeveloped nations do offer a huge potential, but limited buying capacity and poor roads don’t support the cause for insightful auto industry. In an attempt to bring auto revolution in rural Africa, the Mobius Motors is developing a low-cost yet robust vehicle for the masses.
Dubbed as “Mobius Two,” the new SUV from the Nairobi-based automaker comes without air conditioner and glass side windows to keep its coast within the reach of average buyers. Sturdy enough to handle the uninviting African roads, the latest Mobius SUV is likely to employ the Toyota 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which was used in its earlier version, the Mobius One. Though, there is no official declaration as yet from the company.
Keeping the bumpy African roads in mind, the Mobius Two locates hefty skid plates at the bottom to keep the body intact at 14 inches above the ground. Featuring a flexible interior, Low-cost SUV can carry both passengers and cargo weighing up to 1,100 pounds. Priced at $6,000 only, the Mobius Two is expected to be launched by the end of the year.
